As the first to name a state on this great adventure, I have chosen a somewhat cathartic route to take. Naming Alaska “Misery,” is the first chance I have had to release some of my pent up anger towards the town of Egegik specifically and, sense it is all I know of Alaska, Alaska as a whole. I hope that you guys’ experience in Alaska is more pleasant than mine and luckily Egegik is nowhere near the center!
We cannot think of a better person to be our first paying customer, Chuck! It’s too bad that our first dollar is digital, because we’d love to frame it and put it on the wall of our new name-that-state business. Hopefully, our time in Alaska will be better than yours was–we’ll be sure to stay away from the fishing industry while we’re there.
I tried to buy the entire original 13 colonies but New York and Connecticut aren’t working. I’d like to buy them as well. You know, to complete the set.
Thirteen colonies for under $20–what a bargain! Oh, and we’ve got NY and CT fixed now. Thanks for your self-accolading support!
Ok I can not figure out how to rename a center of a State once it has a name. I guess I am a litlle slow or in to much of a hurry. I am keeping you 2 in my thoughts and prayers everyday.
Aaron and Laura,
We wanted to name the state center of Ohio after my great-grandparents because he (Riley) rode his bike from Dayton, Ohio to Knoxville, TN to ask her (Annie) to marry him! He worked with the Wright Brothers at their bicycle shop in Dayton.
Aaron and Laura - I have really enjoyed following your adventures through the website. I named several of the states based on some of my own cycling fun. Mountain biking with my sons in Arkansas and New Mexico. Renting the fat tire bikes on Jacksonville Beach. Recognizing a fellow FAA employee and cycling enthusiast from California. A relaxing ride along the Rails to Trails in Wisconsin. During a business trip to the island of Molokai in Hawaii (a very bike-friendly island), I rented a bike and commuted to the airport each day where we were working. The ride home each afternoon included a 3 mile climb over the ridge on the west end of the island. Being a casual cyclist, I was thankful for the low gears available on the rented mountain bike. The ocean views during the climb made the ride easier - it was almost as scenic as our home state of Oklahoma!! Being a native of Kansas, I tried to name that state but the link on the web page is not working. A soon as the link is available, I will name Kansas in honor of the tornado we endured during a weekend cycling trip to Marion Lake. Continue to have a safe and enjoyable trip.
So I was going to contribute to naming Texas, but I can’t compete with my husband and his great choice of names!
Okay you two…where the heck is North Dakota on the above list! Seriously! Are you boycotting this great state? There are 50 states…not 40! As a native North Dakotan, actually I’ll speak for the whole state, we feel left out!
Heather, you’re right–somehow I left off North Dakota. My deepest apologies. It is corrected now, and by my counting (which you can see is not always accurate), we now have 50 states up for grabs.
